One of my favorite books…

The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

The story itself is deceptively simple but alludes to so much more. I had to read this book in high school and prepare for discussions about it in class. My interpretation of the various symbols in the book turned out to be wildly different from my teacher’s. I remember that she was unwilling, or maybe unable, to accept my views no matter how I argued them. Though it sounds cocky to say, the experience made me realize how unique I am. I was really proud of myself for standing up for my opinions despite the fact that I was a mere high school student and she was an AP Lit teacher with a masters from UCLA (which she never let us forget). The experience sounds a little trivial here, but I think it was one of my defining moments. This book will always remind me that I am creative and self-confident - though a bit stubborn and disrespectful haha.
